Born 1990 in Israel, lives and works in Tel Aviv.
Ron Asulin works as a sculpture and installation artist. These mediums serve for him as a physical confrontation with constructional questions, allowing him to operate within cultural, social, and political structures. In this manner, the manipulation of an object is for him a search for an escape from these structures, an exit out of one and into another. Through objects he collects from the street or second-hand stores, his work evokes the experience of displacement as a structure in itself, as a liminal space created after the loss of meaning, while seeking to locate a new definition.
Asulin is a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, and the MFA program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Upon graduation from Bezalel he won the Ehud Elhanani Prize for Excellence in Creativity, and Josef and Ada Bolaffio prize for excellence in theoretical studies. Asulin is a recipient of the Ministry of Culture Young Artist Award (2024) and the Elovik-Bezalel Prize for Excellence in Art (2024). His work has been exhibited in solo, duo, and group exhibitions, supported by grants from institutions such as the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, UCLA Nazarian Center, Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts and Rabinovich foundation.
