Ester Schneider

Born 1978 lives and works in Tel Aviv.


Ester Schneider (b. 1978, USSR) lives and works in Tel Aviv. After completing her B.Des at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Schneider she studied art at Hamidrasha College, Beit Berl, and earned an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design.

Schneider works mainly in painting and installation. Her work is inspired by a multiplicity of cultural arenas, including Jewish mysticism, Persian miniatures, and Russian modernism. Schneider's work both connects and sustains contradictions, dealing with identity and faith and how they interfere with the gaze, while creating a visual and structural realm.

Schneider's work has been shown extensively in local art institutions and in various international venues, including The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Eretz Israel Museum, Museum on the Seam, The Jerusalem Biennial, The Israeli Drawing Biennial, The Tel Aviv University Art Gallery, The Tel Aviv Artists' Studios, Basis Gallery in Herzliya, ZUMU – Mobile Museum, Hamidrasha Gallery, Inga Gallery, ArtCube Gallery at The Artists’ Studios in Jerusalem, Triumph Gallery in Moscow, and The University Gallery of the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, CA.

Schneider is the recipient of the Young Artist Prize by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport (2011), the Ilana Elovic-Bezalel Prize for Excellence in the Arts (2016), and the Givon Prize (2012).

Works by Schneider are in the collection of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Haaretz Art Collection and private local and international collections.
